Children & Youth Overview
This section contains information, overviews, links and resources for those grantmakers funding projects primarily focused on children or youth. We classify this age group as being those between 0 and 25 years of age, and further divide into the following loose categories:
- Early childhood (0-5 years)
- Children (6-13 years)
- Youth (13-21 years)
- Young adults (18-25 years)
Statistical and survey information on the profile and needs of young people in Australia are available from:
- Young Australians: their health and wellbeing 2007 by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare; covers life expectancy, wellbeing, factors influencing health and a chapter on Indigneous and Torres Strait Islander young people.
- Profile of Young Australians: Facts, Figures and Issues, published by the Foundation for Young Australians; provides a snapshot of the status of young people at the beginning of the 21st century across major areas which affect their well-being.
- National Survey of Young Australians 2007 by Mission Australia; survey which covers housing, activities, and family situations as well as areas of concern or importance to young people, where they turn for help or advice, and who they admire. Provides state and territory breakdown.
