How do I go directly to the page I type into the Search box?

  1. Type the name of the page into the Search box.
  2. Click Go or hit the Enter key on your keyboard.
  3. You should be automatically directed to the page you wish to access.

If you are taken to a page of search results instead, it is probably because there is no page titled exactly what you put in the Search box. Check the search results to find the page you're looking for.

How to I search for a keyword or phrase?

  1. Type the phrase or keyword into the Search box
  2. Click Search
  3. The following Search Results page will list pages in which your keyword or term appears (either in the title or body of the page)

If you cannot locate what you're after in the search results, try browsing our Sitemap.

What if there are no results for my search term?

  1. Broaden your keywords - e.g. instead of searching for "who funds dual diagnosis?" just search for "dual diagnosis"
  2. Try different spelling/phrasing - e.g. "nonprofit" instead of "not-for-profit"
  3. Try browsing our category structure instead - see to the left under the "Browse" heading

Is there a way for me to get more detailed results?

The future KnowledgeBank Search will provide a flexible platform within which you can search the PhilanthropyWiki as a component of the entire Philanthropy Australia KnowledgeBank.

In the meantime, we have created a temporary Advanced Search Engine, based on Google's search engine, to provide you with a form of search results that you are more familiar with.

Beta testers please note: the Advanced Search Engine will become functional once the PhilanthropyWiki has been made live.

About the PhilanthropyWiki Search Engine

Wikis have specially designed search engines that serve two slightly different functions, as you'll see represented by the Go and Search buttons.

The default search function (which you'll activate if you hit 'Enter' instead of clicking either of the buttons,) is the Go function. Typing a name, term or phrase into the search box and hitting Enter or Go will attempt to locate you a page with the exact title that you've typed into the search box.

For example, if you type in "The Myer Foundation" and click Go, it will not provide you with a search results page, but take you directly to the page named The Myer Foundation.

If you are using the Go function and there is no page with the exact title you typed into the search box, you will be taken to a search results page. The search results page is divided into two sections - the first displays a list of pages where your search term appears somewhere in the title of the page. The second section displays a list of pages where your search term appears in the body of the page.

The Search button serves to bypass the function that automatically seeks to load a page with the exact title as your search term, and will always take you to a search results page. For example, if you typed in "The Myer Foundation" and hit Search, a search results page would load, with The Myer Foundation listed at the top of your results.

A note on Redirects:

The Administrators have set up a number of "Redirect pages" to improve the functionality of the Go function. In other words, we have redirected variations on a page title to the actual page created in order to smooth out user searches. For example, if you type in Myer Foundation and hit Go, you will be taken directly to The Myer Foundation, rather than a page of search results. You will be able to tell if you have been redirected by a message that appears under the heading of the page you end up at (eg. (Redirected from Myer Foundation).
