Disability Overview
A disability is categorised as an impairment of body functions and structures, which limits or restricts activity and participation.
- The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare estimates that some form of disability affects one in five Australians.
- 6.3% of Australians have a severe disability (meaning that they require assistance with self-care, mobility or communication)
- 14% of Australians have a lesser degree of disability
