Responding to the Victorian bushfires - what role for philanthropy?
From PhilanthropyWiki

This document was prepared pro bono by Effective Philanthropy for Philanthropy Australia after a meeting of Philanthropy Australia members held in February 2009 to discuss possible philanthropic responses to the Victorian Bushfire disaster of 2009. It provides philanthropists with an understanding of what will be involved in the bushfire recovery process, and what role philanthropy can play in it.
The 8-page paper provides a snapshot of:
- People directly, indirectly and consequentially affected by the bushfires
- Requirements for cross-sector coordination
- Good disaster recovery grantmaking principles
- Key community recovery and renewal support requirements
- Specific grantmaking opportunities for philanthropy
It also includes a map of bushfire affected areas with information on median incomes as an indication of pre-existing socioeconomic status.
